A personal tribute.

I first met Helen at Leo's Rugby club at a friend's leaving party in the early 1970's. I fell for her big time, but it took me years to finally convince her that I was the one. She was based at Bentcliffe Grove, one of eight kids in a house like a youth club. She opened up my world!

Strangely, I knew I would be with Helen forever after just 2 weeks but no-one believed me, why would they? Helen wasn't really interested. But I knew!

We talked and talked... how many children, how to bring them up, morals, money and what mattered most. We made it happen in our first 10 years of marriage. Helen turned out to be a high flying professional mother, consistent, fair and turning into quite a looker as she hit her early 30's. Fortunately for me I did my bit. I had no choice!

Three different children and yet the same. Same that is regards their abilities and ambitions. Confident because they'd been tested, taken decisions and accepted responsibility, experienced risk and learnt the lesson. Careful neglect!

Helen reflected that her one regret in life was smoking. There was nothing else to regret!

We never had a million pounds, we didn't need it. What we had was worth millions!

My personal favourites :

Ruth came home from Primary school class 1 and asked if the teacher was allowed to hit her. Helen replied "Yes" and said if she found out the teacher had hit her she'd hit Ruth as well!

When Helen was 15 and on her way home on a dark night a guy came up behind her and held a knife to her throat demanding sex. She turned around, punched him and ran home. As she ran she looked back to see him still laid out on the ground.
